Spring and fall months make for the highest probability of severe weather and tornadoes.

From a meteorological perspective, there’s not a big atmospheric driver influencing this year of how this fall severe season will end up being. Typically, I look for temperature drops of 20 degrees or greater for severe weather potential. This usually works better during the fall and winter months than during the spring months due to big pushes of cold air colliding with warm/moist air from the Gulf of Mexico.

Fall tornado season is upon us. The months of November and December are considered the second peak of tornadoes, especially across the Gulf Coast states. The United States averages roughly 1,200 per year.
