Sunny side up

Five years ago, I bought a new washing machine. I didn’t do it because I wanted to, I did it because the washer I had was 10 years old and, even though I was told it could be repaired, it was going to cost quite a bit. I thought it would be better to invest in a new washer. I am still debating whether that was a good decision.

Our first clothes washer was so dependable. It was a Kenmore, and the salesman who helped us decide which model to buy was helpful and, since he was retiring soon, shared his thoughts freely with us. The model we bought cost just a little over $100 in 1967. It was basic: three water temperatures (hot, warm, and cold), and it featured three settings for washing clothes (delicate, normal, and heavy duty). Ruble kept going back to a washer model that featured an impressive looking control panel. He said it might be better to go with the more expensive model.
