ABERDEEN – A recent fatal accident reinforced the need for updated extrication equipment for Monroe County volunteer fire departments. During its Nov. 4 meeting, the board of supervisors and county fire coordinator Evan Adams talked about grants that will be pursued for both equipment and turnout gear for firefighters.

Adams, who has seen quotes range from $32,000 to $42,000 for a complete set of extrication equipment, will obtain formal quotes before reporting back to supervisors in December. He said there’s a need for four or five sets.
