A nearly three-hour trip for their first-round matchup may have seemed like an unfavorable situation for the Amory Panthers on Friday, but their rugged play quickly shifted the game in their favor in a 23-7 win over Newton County.

“I thought we did a really good job of driving the ball,” Amory coach Brooks Dampeer said. “We had multiple 15-play drives on the night and did a good job of converting on third down too. We went to a lot of different skill guys throwing the football, and (Braden) Maranto was really efficient throwing the ball. For about three weeks in a row, he’s been very efficient, and that’s made huge difference for us.”
