When I was a youngster and W. O. Rutledge was editor of the Gazette, he had a column on the front page called “What Comes Down our Alley.” For the most part it was a miscellaneous collection of short items and commentary about various goings-on around town with no central theme. It was, however, a good capsule summary to keep readers abreast of the news (and perhaps gossip).
