TUPELO – With six fewer shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, retailers still expect a modest increase in holiday sales.

The National Retail Federation last month said it expects holiday spending to increase 2.5 to 3.5% over last year. Consumers are expected to spend between $979.5 billion and $989 billion in total holiday spending in November and December.
