I am a resident of Lee County for 40-plus years. During this time I have witnessed a tremendous growth of Tupelo and Lee County. It is my belief that during this time our city and county government deserve a gold star in governing, using foresight, and decision-making. During this period I am sure our governing body has grown substantially, and rightfully so. I am proud to say that I am a resident of Tupelo, Miss.

However, I question our local government's recent performance in handling of the bridge condemnation on West Main Street in Tupelo. This bridge is on one of the primary arteries into Tupelo from the west. Because of this, a HUGE inconvenience is place on these people traveling to and from Pontotoc and Lafayette Counties. Yet, it has taken 4 months just to reach a point to request bids. Has the government bureaucracy reached a point that it requires this long to decide to request bids? Also, it is now forecasted that it will be some time in November 2024 before completion.
