My original thought when reading Shad White’s editorial in a recent Journal was disappointment, but on consideration, I began to feel dismay. Elected officials on national, state and local levels are elected to serve all of the people, not a select group who look, act like and believe like they do.

White’s letter is an excellent example of why Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs are desperately needed in our state. For him to write of other races, cultures, sexual orientations with such disdain shows why people such as Mr. White, especially elected officials, in our state need such programs. The saddest takeaway from his words is his lack of respect for people who are different from him.
